EllwoodLost in TranslationBy Jen Levins
On Lost in Transition, California-based reggae rock quartet Ellwood creates groove-laden rock closer to Sublime than anything out of Jamaica. Don't be deterred by the sticker on the cover proclaiming the album is reggae-this album has enough grit and funk for Fat Wreck Chords, the record label historically home to successful punk bands. I'm not saying you couldn't use this album to host a barbeque on the beach, but everyone might start raising their fists and singing along. Ellwood has a creatively modern approach to a genre that would otherwise be sitting stagnant.
