Philadelphia's music scene is way underappreciated. Like any city, we have our fair share of the iconic, the semi-obnoxious, and the downright intolerable. And maybe the reason why the city Love doesn't get recognized for its startling music is our fault - we're just not showing enough love to the right artists, even to those bands across the river. So consider the December issue - The Philly Issue - your wake-up call. Inside, we have the buzzworthy outfits that deserve your undivided attention - The Swimmers, Good Old War, Cuddle Magic, AnOmali, Screaming Females, and cover outfit Free Energy. Take the time to listen, people, and you won't regret it.

Also in this month's issue: Emilie Autumn, The 69 Eyes, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Metropolis and the Top 9 of '09, where Origivation writer, Izzy Cihak, chats up with nine of the best artists of this year to give us their opinion of the three best tracks of this year. It's heavy.

There is no doubt that Kill Hannah fans are devoted. Just take a look at the user uploaded photos on their website displaying the various Kill Hannah inspired ink as a sign of musical affection. These kids are passionate, through and through.But they're no different than the Chicago-based glam-inspired dark emo outfit. Kill Hannah is just as passionate (if not more) about their music and their latest record, Wake Up the Sleepers, is a testament to that - it's an epically crafted record that makes a statement and defies the rules of the music industry as we know them. Want to know more? Check out this month's cover story for definitive proof.

And after you're finished with the cover story, flip the pages and read stories on Times New Viking, Electric Six, Genitorturers, Peasant, Breathe Carolina, and lots more!

There is something sweet-tempered and alluring about the Virgina-based pop-rock outfit Parachute - the five 23-years-old that go by the moniker make infectious and graceful pop melodies that hold a certain unique appeal. Even though they are close in sound to other emo/soul/funk-infused mainstream acts, their music doesn't get lost, and it will find its way into your daily routine. And that's why there are no apologizes from this young band - they are proud of the radio-friendly jams they create. That's why they are October's cover stars (that, and because they love Hall &amp; Oates).

And after you're finished with the cover story, flip the pages and read stories on Lissy Trullie, Brother Ali, The Dear Hunter, These United States, Owl City, Echo Screen, and lots more!

There is something deliciously wicked and fancy about the UK-based indie trio the Noisettes. Musically, they follow their own rules - the styles they invoke will attract all types of bright listeners and music snobs. With their latest record, Wild Young Hearts, dropping later in September on Mercury Records, there's the funk/disco grove, the sweet girl group/doo wop melodies, the electro dance rhythms, and '60s soul that will evoke an array of emotions in everyone privy to its brilliant sounds. So check out Alexandra Jones' conversation with Noisettes' dynamic frontwoman Shingai Shoniwa in this month's cover feature.

Don't forget to also check out our special Warped Tour feature, where OV writer Sophia Varoumas celebrates 15th years of punk rock, activism, and good times with founder Kevin Lyman.

Also in this issue, New York's new wave/pop punk sensation stellarstarr*, sweet R&amp;B chanteuse Chrisette Michele, Hollywood's latest metal babies Eyes of Noctum, and Def Jam's new sexy foursome Electrik Red, plus so much more, so check it out. And don't forget to swing by our blog to check out the many reviews and web exclusive interviews from Origivation writers.

24-year-old Norwegian firecracker is Ida Maria brazen, honest and angsty. Her voice is husky and rough, coated with cigarette smoke and late night alcohol (well, at least it sounds like it is). And her words - her musings - are prolific in their simplicity. Ida Maria is amazing, and that's why she's our cover star.

Also in this issue, we have Swedish indie act The Sounds, Los Angeles-based Miss Derringer, New Hampshire's breakout outfit Wild Light, Japanese gypsy rock band Kagero from New York, local acts Kevin McQuiston and Quelle Source, and so much more, so check it out.

With his hand in virtually every aspect of pop music, Butch Walker is a Jack-of-All-Trades type - a singer, songwriter, musician, producer and collaborator. And now he can add "cover star" to his belt - Origivation writer/resident blogger Izzy Cihak chats with the LA-based artist about his career, new album Sycamore Meadows and everything else Walker for this month's cover story ("ReadySetGo!," pgs. 20-24).

Also in the March issue: Glasvegas' bassist Paul Donoghue answers some our burning questions for "The OV Interview" (pgs. 17-19). Local pop-rock outfit Clarity talks with writer Nick Krefting about their success as a group and how patience is key ("Eyes Wide Open," pgs 10 - 12). And writer Deena White interviews Scranton boys Motionless in White about hitting it big in "The Art of Moving Up" (pgs. 25 - 26). But that's not all - make sure to check out interviews with The Extraordinaires, Erronious Krunk, LP Stiles, Jim George Band, the head of Drexel U's MAD Dog Records and Lake Trout and The Biggest Label Ever.

Oh, and are you wondering how you should spend your St. Paddy's Day? Then check out Brenda Hillegas' thorough list of all things Irish in music and nightlife that's going on this month ("The City of Irish Love," pgs. 33 - 34).
Rock on.

The artists featured in our SPRING FASHION ISSUE all represent different styles that are popping up all over the musical board - from Melora Creager of Rasputina's Bohemian Goth nostalgia, Muhsinah's urban chicness and Ruby Throat's deconstructed kinderwhore hipness to River Monroe's rock star threads and Goodbye ETC's throwback basics (Origivation photographer James Jackson captured the fabrics of these ladies and gents for the spread). And we picked them because their garb is as personal as they are relative: it's not about how cool they look - it's about the celebration of their music as told through their clothes. These artists aren't fitting an image - wearing "costumes," if you will - they are just being themselves. And we think that, in today's music, that's unique.

Also in this issue, we have antifolk artist Jeffrey Lewis, Los Angeles-based power-pop/punk duo Oh No Not Stereo, Early November alum Ace Enders and his new band A Million Different People, local acts Zelazowa and Sounds from Atlantis, and so much more, so check it out.

		<description>
Let's be frank, music in 2008 wasn't up to par.

Music, on the mainstream scale, is suffering, while pockets of cities are producing tremendously talented, ambitious, prolific and inventive acts that are playing small circuits in support of their music. And unfortunately, those bands worth mentioning were nothing but mere obscurities on your playlist that made your friends think you were super-chic with a real ear for sound or a pretentious snob (you're always the latter).
Still, those bands silently productive in 2008 (sleepers, if you will) are the ones we're terribly excited about - Lenka, An Horse, Kiernan McMullan and The Drama Club. We're also jazzed about some mightly talented locals that have been pumping through out musical blood, like Dark Horse and the Carousels, Haley, Love City, and Leah Smith. That's why they all made into Origivation's Most Anticipated of 2009 issue.

We firmly believe that this new year is going to be the year for these artists - the year when everyone and anyone takes more notice of what they have to offer our deprived ears. And we'll support them all the way.

Local PA boys Innerpartysystem grace the cover this month and chat it up with our own Brenda Hillegas about music in the UK, going on tour, releasing their self-titled debut, and those curious blood stains on their carpet. Georgia-based Dead Confederate lays down the rules on being Southern, defying stereotypes, and being the first artist signed to Gary Gersh's The Artist Organization with O-Mag's Deena White. And Randy LoBasso finds out what's so childish about Delaware's the Spinto Band.

Plus, our Top 10 Albums of 2008 lists the most essential albums from the past year that must, MUST, be in your record collection.

Rise Against discusses their new record and why the more things change, the more they stay the same. Origivation bids a fond farewell to legendary Pink Floyd keyboardist, Rick Wright. Ponytail lets us on their secrets for rock and roll domination and we flip the script and finally give our comrade in sound, Kevin Walker some exposure with a spotlight on his own M Sound studios. Mogwai proves once and for all that they are the loudest band to ever hit a stage, The National Rifle gets political on our asses and F5 shows themselves to the world. All this and more in this month’s heaping helping of sound and fury.

Origivation is under new management. As of November, this stellar sonic ship will be steered by writer, Annamarya Scaccia. Dominic will be going on to pursue other endeavors. The Dewey Beach Music conference was once again a success, with bands from all over this great planet of ours coming by to show their stuff. H20 and Bane will be at the Church on 11-01, in what promises to be a sterling display of hardcore glory. Before that we have Tokyo Police Club to look forward to. They will be at the church on 10-29. For all other amazing R5 extravaganzas, checkout r5productions.com. That’s all for now Origivators. Have a safe, happy and healthy Halloween and keep supporting original music. Thanks so much.

An Albatross rises from the Wilkes Barre flames to discuss their new record, their tour prospects and their new label. Rancid wows the punk rock pants off of an entire audience, most of whom are too young to remember when they released their first record. Wintersleep gets robbed in New Orleans but rallies to deliver a hell of a performance at the Electric Factory-a sterling example of Canadian diplomacy. Chairlift discusses the creative process as it relates to inter-band relationships and Victor Victor band proves that you can still have fun with your wife after you say, “I do”--and you thought marriage was all sacrifice and hard work. As if these gems weren’t enough, we have some more for you.

The Dewey Beach Music Conference is just around the corner and Origivation has the skinny on some the shining stars of the event. Kevin Walker speaks with Sean Glonek from SRG studios in Hamilton, NJ, 5-Finger Death-Punch keeps metal alive in this crazy, crazy world, newcomer, Sophia Verumous dissects Radiohead as only a true fan can and Bethlehem’s Musikfest gets an Origi-write-up. All those hot items and so much more are within our humble pages; we take such good care of you.

The end of summer is near, even for Tim Kinsella, as he discusess his plans to go back to school after a ten-year hiatus. What does this mean?

For now it looks like the prolonged absence of Joan of Arc. Year-long Disaster chats with Katie Gray about what it's like to have rock and roll be a family thing, and laments the absence of rock bands in these modern times. Speking of family, our own Annamarya Scaccia chats it up with Brothers and Sisters. Lee Morgan brings his quaint and unassuming ways to World Cafe and literally wins the crowd over. Jethro Tull celebrates forty years of rock and roll glory, and proves to everyone that flutes are more than just those things you harrass band-geeks with. Projekt Revolution comes to town and brings everything but the guillotine. Motley Crue squeezes back into the leather and puts Dr. Feelgood on call in case anyone hurts themselves. And finally Kevin Walker asks the Milkboy UnLabel, "Sure you make records, but what else can you do?" That's all folks. Keep all the taunts, threats and praise coming. You know I love it!

			Origivation sits down with Battles to discuss the dangers of labeling, Hideki Matsui, friends and enemies and exactly how to approach Bjork.

The Oi! Fest comes to Allentown and is well documented by our own Stephanie Weaver who gives us all a lesson in what it’s like to be punk rock in 2008. And speaking of punk—and the philosophy and origins therein—Mission of Burma chats with the big O before their show on the 27th.

Dominic Nicosia is once transformed by the miracle of Swervedriver in New York and Kevin Walker drops by Cambridge Sound Studios to give budding musicians a taste of what they can get if they sign on to do a few sessions.

In a local spotlight with North Jersey’s Sunburst Carrier, we are reminded of just how hard it is to find that magic collaborative spark that makes for a tasty musical recipe.

The July issue is packed with all these features and so much more. It’s a veritable goodie bag of rock and roll fun. All you have to do is stick your hand in there and pick something good. Enjoy this month’s little foray into musical analysis. See you in thirty days.

In addition to this holy trinity, the unofficial reverend Jim White gives Katie Gray the sermon of his life, Acorn proves that it ain’t nothin’ but a family thing and Philly Rising winners, The Great Unknown chart new folksy territory. I hope everyone is embracing the joy and the refreshing newness of Spring. A season that has long been synonymous with fertility and rebirth, it seems only fitting that Origivation dress to complement its welcome arrival. Within this month's pages are items that are sure to please everyone. The sounds, shows and streets are in full bloom with new musical life and vitality.

To begin with, Origivation sits down with A Silver Mount Zion's Ian Ilavsky and explores the meaning of music as it relates to independence, corporate interests and old age.

Katie Gray delivers another fine feature, this time on the multi-national super group, Gogol Bordello's Eugene Hutz. So if you ever wanted to know what the deal with GB is, now is your chance.

In an interview that I'll not soon forget, Kimya Dawson comes at us full-force to discuss, lo-fi recordings, her new project, collaborative music and tollbooth operators' odd thumbs and resemblances to pop stars.

On the local front, Black Landlord comes to the TLA to collect the rent with Grimace Federation as their enforcers.

Last but certainly not least on the agenda is an interview with garden-state songsmith, Jeffrey Gaines as he discusses humble beginnings and promising ends. All this plus so much more in the Spring edition of your favorite local rockrag. Aren't we good to you? Keep supporting original music.

			Were this issue an elevator, many features and news items would have to catch the next one. Packed to the gunwales with fantastic features and cerebral sidebars, the March 2008 installment will satisfy all of your rock and roll requests or your money back. This month take an in-depth look into the creative mind of Daniel Johnston as he chats with our own Katie Gray. Also, keep an eye out for possible news of litigation as we respectfully chide the Starlight Ballroom and discuss Cat Power’s recent performance. Kiss the Cracker Jack box ring of Indie godfather, Chris Simpson as he discusses Zookeeper, his latest and sedatest of projects. Hershey Park heroes, The April Skies dropped on by to give us a glimpse into their past, present and undeniably promising future as seasoned veterans of the PA pop circuit. Also on the local front, PA’s own 3-Legged Fox sits down with John Gentile and discuss among other things, what it’s like to be an amputee in the animal kingdom. We think you as puppet, poet, pirate, pawn and king will find it most satisfactory. ENJOY!!

		<itunes:subtitle>Vol. 7, Issue 2: March 2008</itunes:subtitle>
		<itunes:summary>
ENJOY!!

		<description>
			The dominant theme in this month's issue is diversity. For years Origivation has been almost exclusively musically oriented. While we still deal primarily in beats over brushes, this month we thought we'd let the other kids play a little bit.

With features on Epitaph Records' creative director, Nick Pritchard and the New York based art project, "Screentest" brought to you by Rob Roth and featuring Lunachicks, Theo Kogan, O-vation is bringing you the sight to go with the sound. And speaking of sight, as you can probably tell by the cover, The Dresden Dolls dropped by to remind us that life really is a cabaret. Also in the pages this month we have a bittersweet farewell to Hot Rod Circuit, once-in-a-lifetime chats with Dillinger Escape Plan and John Allers of the revolutionary radio 104.5 and so, so, so much more! So, as always, we hope you enjoy the new magazine, the new website painstakingly crafted by our resident boy wonder, Josh Mckibbin and most of all, we hope you enjoy life.
