Noteworthy: Monster Track Super Group
By John Kerecz
If classic 60's and 70's tracks are your thing, this classic rock power group will fix you all up!
As the name suggests, Monster Track Super Group is a band featuring three prominent Pennsylvania musicians with diversified backgrounds. Bret Alexander of The Badlees plays guitar, bass, and keyboards; former Breaking Benjamin drummer Jeremy Hummel is percussion, and Jeff Pittinger of the classic rock band White Witch provides the vocals.
Through their music, the trio shows their talent reaches beyond their original bands, coming together to update the signature classic rock sound in a way that feels fresh.
Monster Track Super Group does classic covers, but the band doesn't think they are strictly a cover band. "I do not view it as much as being a cover band as being part of a revival, bringing back the songs that made rock great to a new generation," Pittinger said. "I have notebooks full of songs that I feel have been the biggest influence on my life and rock history that I have always wanted to record and now we are doing it."
These musicians have come from bands that are renowned for doing original music, but their versions of the classics are smooth, polished, and respectful. The guitar, keyboard, and drums are always well-balanced, and Pittinger sings with a rare tone and range.
On the band's self-titled EP are versions of Cat Stevens' "Wild World," Creedence Clearwater's "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?," Nick Gilder's "Hot Child in the City" and Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" The EP gives listeners the chance to experience these classic tunes as if they were reborn for today, while also showcasing these artists outside their normal musical settings.
Presently, Monster Track Super Group is back in the studio working on a full album and getting ready to do some upcoming shows.
Pittinger joked with the band's name, saying, "Tell your friends there's a monster loose in northeast Pennsylvania, and it's coming your way."
